Last week, Dr Jonathan Duckworth’s digital rehabilitative table was featured on Channel 9 news. Watch the news story here.
The Elements Table is a large tablet that allows patients to play with colour, sound and light to enhance their experience of cognitive rehabilitation. Used in conjunction with physical therapy, the table encourages repetitive exercise as a way to retrain hand-eye coordination – early use of the table in recovery has shown a long term improvement with users.
Patients using the Elements Table have some form of brain injury which may have been acquired through a stroke, a head injury or may be due to a degenerative disease. The tablet is currently being trialled in Australian hospitals as formal mode of rehabilitation.
The Elements Table has been the result of research partnership between Australian Catholic University and RMIT University and was recently awarded the Premier’s Design Award.
